Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ether is a non-ionic cellulose ether made from high molecular material refined cotton by a series of etherification. It is an odorless, non-toxic white powder that swells into a clarified or slightly turbid colloidal solution in cold water. It has the characteristics of thickening, dispersion, emulsification, film formation, suspension, adsorption, surface activity, water retention and colloidal protection.
